Lent Day: Palm Sunday
 
It's Palm Sunday, and the beginning of Holy Week. The week before the big event, and I'm not talking about the March Madness semi-finals, but Easter - the Crucifixion of Christ and his Resurrection.

When I think about the the story about Jesus on a colt/donkey and riding in while folks shake their palm fronds worshiping the lord their king. We have to remember back in those days - thousands of years ago - they were looking for a hero, a soldier to ride on a mighty stead and save them from their retched lives. Aren't we all waiting for someone to ride on a white horse to save us, to make the world a better place.

Surprise, Jesus wasn't like King David, but more like an anti-government hippy freak, who believed in non-violent resistance. Oh, the irony.

What strikes me about Luke 19 is the Parable Jesus tells about the 10 Minas. The last part where the king says, "those who have much will be given more, those who have nothing even what they have will be taken away, and those who were against me to be king will be brought before me and killed." That's kinda harsh. A lot of lessons in the bible are told in stories/parables.

They can be interpreted in many different ways. But, I wonder...do some folks take that a little to literally? You have to take the whole story in context and not just the last part. Back then, you'd never give anyone anything especially money if you didn't trust them. Then when you came back the folks you entrusted with "your kingdom" you'd expect them to do their best to grow it. Jesus was really cryptic.

We are all seeking something to fulfill us, make us feel whole again. Sometimes we seek that outside of ourselves, through infidelity, abuse, addiction, blame, sex, over-consumption, etc instead of looking for a hero, in someone, like ourselves. For me, what I think Jesus was telling the people as he was entering Jerusalem, if you're looking for a Savior, it's not me, it's you. We may not always enjoy the situation we are given, but we must do the best with what we got.
