I took 3 students to the state capitol today, for the safe schools youth summit. It was a great opportunity for them to get involved in helping to shape policy, especially, policy that will directly affect them.
It is beyond me that anyone would be against
stronger and more comprehensive anti-bullying legislation. How 37 words
can some how help solve or prevent the complex problem of bullying. I
guess Byron school district would have to get sued before their state
representative would do anything to help end bullying. The most
upsetting, the fact he wouldn't listen, or admit there's a problem. I
have 2 step-children who have suffered
from emotional bullying in Byron schools. When your city doesn't stand
up to want to do something to keep students safe, you'll continue to
have students silently suffering. How disappointing.
Legislators need to step up and take the lead in supporting students, and creating policies for safer schools. Healthy and productive students, and communities leads to success and prosperity. It's unfortunate to be witness to how disconnected our representatives are. Are they representing our concerns, our only trying to get re-elected. It's time to govern. It's time to lead. In my humble opinion.

Students need to know they are loved and supported. Hopefully, passing the Safe & Supportive Schools Act will help save a young life.
